We are very excited to offer an opportunity that allows anyone to enjoy the pleasures that come from growing your own fiber and having your own farm! You don’t even need to move in order to do it!

Being a vendor at the South Bend Farmers Market has allowed me the chance to meet a lot of people, many live in the city. One thing I have been asked by several of them is if I offer any type of CSA. 

What is a CSA you ask???  CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. What it does is allow consumers to take an active part in getting the products they desire to the point of harvest. They do this by investing up front in shares of the farmers crop/product and then they get those products over the course of their subscription (usually over a year but sometimes shorter plans are available). For example, shares in a dairy farmers CSA might allow the shareholder a certain amount of quarts of milk per week. I had never heard of any alpaca farms taking part in this. After a lot of planning, we designed 3 different options to offer for our 2011-2012 harvest.

What we hope to foster and grow is an appreciation for farming and home grown products by offering the chance to be a farmer to anyone that wishes to be. As the saying goes…No Farms=No Food (or fiber!). In losing farms, we lose the seeds for tomorrow…literally! We also lose the skills to farm and create.

We encourage any of our shareholders to come and visit us and the alpacas that their fiber is from. Working is not required but fun is a must!!!

Option 1- Our Yarn Loving CSA Share 

By becoming a Yarn Loving shareholder, you will receive 2 pounds of yarn in your choice of available colors. This can be either in the standard homespun or our millspun yarns. We offer a wide array of natural colors in our herd. This could also include our herd yarn that has been dyed too. Our herd of alpacas is bred for lasting fineness, focusing on Royal Baby and Baby fine fibers. We also have other fine fleeces available as some colors are harder to get in Royal fineness. One thing is for certain, we sort through our fibers and only use those that will be luxurious for you to work with and to wear.

We have 5 shares left at $225/year  

Option 2- Our Spinners Passion CSA Share

This is for all you spinners out there!! Your share in our "Spinners Passion" will include 2 pounds of washed and carded fiber from our alpacas. You can choose the colors from our available fleeces (which include most all of the colors alpacas come in!). I can blend some colors together for you if you like. It is up to you! We have a lot of pride in raising alpacas with low microns and that offer lasting fineness in a rainbow of colors. I sort through all of our fleeces before washing them to use only the finest and most uniform areas of the fleece. This results in wonderful batts that you will be able to spin into your own beautiful yarns. 

We have 10 shares for 2011 at $135/year  

Option 3- Our Alpaca Experience CSA Share

Being a shareholder in our "Alpaca Experience" is for the alpaca lover who loves the animals and the lovely things made from their fiber. They will be able to name one of the new babies and watching them as they grow their first year by visiting our farm if they like! They also will get a gift certificate for $150 to spend in our farm store on whatever they like! This is perfect for the person that doesn't have land but always dreams of having their own alpaca farm!!
